Impact

As a club that gets an influx of around 200 members at the start of the year BUMS are aware of the impact that they can have on the environment. Working alongside other organizations and with a few ideas of their own BUMS plan to educate to members about reducing the impact, crag etiquette and get groups involved in crag clean ups and fundraising.

  • Mountain Rescue: These guys play a vital role in enabling BUMS to do what they do, they can always be seen flying way overhead. Some club members have already asissted with the work that the Mountain Rescue have done, and the club is keen to help in any way they can through educating members of the dangers and fundraising efforts

  • ecoclimber.com is a new website that promotes greener climbing with the aim to de-clutter your cupboard of old climbing gear rather than throwing it way. The website also has a huge lift share  forum where hundreds of climbers have advertised  spare seats in there vehicles to verious different places, which will help you save money on petrol. It is a must see for climbers

BUMS also have a forum that can be used to lift share, find climbing partners, or get rid of old or unwanted climbing gear

  • Transport: Remember to check out public tranport to where you are going, it could just save you money!
  • Access: Access involves rights, responsibilitys and restrictions – remember to enjoy the right of having access we must be responsible. Restrictions in access are often to prptect important species of plant or animal, or are private or farming land so please remember that your actions affect everyone who uses the outdoors.

The countryside rights of way act 2000 (CRoW) is the main piece of legislation governing access to the uplands of England and Wales- for more info on access contact www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk

  • Sanitation:Leave no trace!!!  Be conciderate to others!! It can be unplesent and unnecessary to encounter human waste on paths or near crags. the BMC have guidelines on outdoors sanitation which I would reccomend everyone reading.
